Norwich → Sheringham
Top stop: Hoveton & Wroxham

The Bittern Line begins at Norwich and reaches North Norfolk through the Broads and inland villages before arriving at Cromer and Sheringham. Hoveton & Wroxham is the stop for the River Bure and the separate Bure Valley Railway. Beyond it, the route passes through Worstead, North Walsham and Gunton. The landscape is mainly fields, woodland and settlements; the North Sea belongs to the closing section, not the whole ride from Norwich.
Cromer is a reversal point. After calling there, the train changes direction and runs west through West Runton to Sheringham. This matters for a window seat: a seat that faces forwards before Cromer faces backwards after it. On the westbound stretch, the coast lies to the right and inland ground to the left. Buildings, trees and the distance from the water interrupt sea glimpses. Sheringham's beach is reached on foot after leaving the train.
Sheringham has two different railways. Greater Anglia uses the scheduled terminus; the North Norfolk Railway uses the historic station nearby for heritage trains towards Holt. The latter is a separate attraction with its own operating days and tickets. A journey from Norwich can therefore end with a beach walk, a town visit or a second railway ride, but the connection needs time for walking between stations and boarding the heritage departure.
A normal scheduled Greater Anglia service connecting Norwich with Cromer and Sheringham. It passes through the Norfolk Broads around Hoveton and Wroxham, crosses open agricultural country, reaches the coast at Cromer and continues through West Runton to Sheringham.
Use Sheringham as the destination for a relaxed day, with time for the seafront or a connection to the separately operated North Norfolk Railway. A stop at Hoveton & Wroxham can turn the trip into a Broads day, but check the current timetable before attempting multiple breaks. Sheringham also works well for an overnight on the coast.
