Saved journeys stay on your device

The shortlist and comparison tools use browser local storage. Those selections are not sent to Britain by Window and can be removed with the Clear saved or Clear comparison controls.

External websites have their own policies

Operator, National Rail, Wikimedia Commons and book links open external services. Their privacy and cookie practices apply once you follow those links.

The interactive railway map

Opening the interactive map loads map tiles from the OpenStreetMap Foundation. Your browser sends that service the network information needed to deliver them, including your IP address and the referring site. The map does not send saved journeys or personal travel plans. Read the OpenStreetMap Foundation privacy policy.

The journey finder puts your selected filters in the page address so the form works without JavaScript. Avoid putting personal information in a page address.

No newsletter or account database

The site does not collect email subscriptions, create user accounts or store personal travel plans. The RSS feed is an open alternative for following updates.

Some accommodation, ticket and book links are affiliate links. If you book or buy through them, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. Our route choices and recommendations remain editorially independent.

Managing saved choices

Saved and comparison choices are attached to the browser and device used for the visit. Changing devices or browsers does not carry those choices across. They remain in local storage until cleared with the site controls or the browser’s own storage settings; there is no account synchronisation or site-side travel-plan database.

For a shared device, clear saved choices when they are no longer needed. The browser’s privacy controls can remove the site’s local storage, although doing so also removes the selections used by the shortlist and comparison features. Those controls are separate from the privacy and cookie settings of an external railway, retailer or accommodation website.

Technical data, purpose and retention

Hosting services process the connection information needed to deliver and protect requested pages, including IP addresses and technical error information. We use necessary technical data for reliable delivery, security and fault diagnosis, on the basis of our legitimate interests in operating a secure website. It is not used to build an audience profile.

Saved choices remain on your device until you clear them. Technical service information is kept only for the operational and security purposes for which it is needed, under the hosting providers’ retention policies. Read the Cloudflare privacy policy and OpenAI privacy policy for their handling of service information. Accommodation links use CJ and Booking.com, whose own notices apply when you follow a booking link.

Your information rights

Use our contact route to ask about personal information held in connection with this website. Depending on the circumstances, you can ask for access, correction, erasure or restriction and object to processing based on legitimate interests. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.

Questions about this site

Use the contact page for questions about the site’s content or local saved-journey tools. Avoid including payment details, private booking references or another traveller’s personal information in a correction. Questions about a retailer or railway booking should go to the organisation supplying that service.
